Details & Inspection Notes

Remote mechanical steering marks the 200HP CXL FourStroke. Mercury's 200 hp V-6 sits here on a 25 inch, extra-long shaft, with counter rotation available for a twin install.

Fit and rigging

An extra-long shaft needs a taller transom to sit correctly; measure your boat before ordering rather than assuming the standard length will clear. Counter rotation is available on this CXL designation, relevant mainly for a twin install needing opposite-turning props.

Controls and what ships with it

Remote mechanical steering, sold apart from the powerhead, handles the throttle and shift here, simple to rig on a boat without electronic controls already in place. Mercury rounds out the box with an owner's manual, mounting hardware, and a tool kit; a propeller is not part of the package and needs matching to your gearcase separately.

Before it goes in the water

Rigging cost is worth budgeting alongside the motor itself: a remote mechanical install needs cables, a control box, and gauges sized to this powerhead, none of which are part of the motor's own price. Any new outboard also needs a break-in period; follow the owner's manual schedule rather than running it at full throttle straight out of the box.

Does a digital-control version exist? Yes, a DTS-equipped 200CXL covering electronic throttle and shift is its own, separate listing.

What warranty applies? Mercury backs this new motor with its standard 3-year warranty.
