Details & Inspection Notes

Unlike Mercury's DTS-equipped 200CXL, this used Mercury 200CXL FourStroke Outboard Motor steers and shifts through remote mechanical controls, sold separately, on the same 475-pound, 25-inch-shaft V-6 block with electric start and SmartStart protection.

Mechanical controls instead of digital

Remote mechanical controls use cables rather than an electronic connection to the helm, suiting boats not wired for SmartCraft's digital throttle and shift system. Steering can still be rigged as hydraulic, power-assisted, or through joystick piloting, each offered as an option rather than standard equipment.

Engine specifications

Full throttle on this 3.4-liter, 24-valve V-6 tops out at 5800 RPM, the gearcase spins a 1.85:1 ratio, and the 85-amp alternator is sized for demanding electronics. Twin-engine owners can also get this block with counter rotation. Trim travels up to 20 degrees and tilt extends to 73 degrees.

Mechanical controls are easier to service in the field

A cable-actuated remote control setup like this one is generally simpler to troubleshoot away from a dealer than a digital system, since a sticking cable or worn connection is usually visible and replaceable, where diagnosing an electronic throttle fault often calls for a dealer's diagnostic tool.

Condition and coverage

Previously owned and used, this block should carry some history with it rather than a fresh look. The usual three-year Mercury warranty applies, plus two more years under the Product Protection Gold plan, five years combined. No propeller is included.

Startup & Installation Checklist

  • Inspect all external gaskets, seals, spark plugs and timing components prior to installation.
  • Refill engine oil, transmission gear oil and coolant to manufacturer-specified capacities before initial cranking.
  • Prime the lubrication system and verify ECU wiring pinouts, sensors, and ground connections.
  • Startup warranty covers internal lubricated components, cylinder heads, and engine block for 30 days from delivery.
