Details & Inspection Notes

This used Mercury 15MRC FourStroke Outboard Motor is a manual-start 15 HP engine on a 15-inch shaft, steered through remote controls rather than a tiller handle; those remote controls are sold separately from the motor.

Condition and what's not included

Being a used unit, it will carry some wear from its working life rather than arrive showroom-fresh. Because it is set up for remote steering, you will need your own compatible control box and cables; Mercury's spec for this unit otherwise matches its 15HP sibling in trim, gearcase ratio, and fuel tank.

Specifications carried over from the factory

The gearcase runs a 2.15:1 ratio, the trim system is manual, and a 3.2-gallon remote fuel tank is standard equipment with this engine rather than an add-on. Dry weight is 99 pounds.

Checking a used remote-steer motor before you buy

Because the throttle and steering hardware for this motor is a separate purchase, confirm pricing and availability for a compatible remote control box before committing, since that cost is not part of the motor itself. It is also worth asking whether the cables and controls from a previous installation are available alongside the engine.

Coverage

Mercury backs it with the usual three-year factory coverage, extended another two years under the Product Protection Gold plan, five years all told. It is finished in Phantom Black.

Startup & Installation Checklist

  • Inspect all external gaskets, seals, spark plugs and timing components prior to installation.
  • Refill engine oil, transmission gear oil and coolant to manufacturer-specified capacities before initial cranking.
  • Prime the lubrication system and verify ECU wiring pinouts, sensors, and ground connections.
  • Startup warranty covers internal lubricated components, cylinder heads, and engine block for 30 days from delivery.
