Details & Inspection Notes
Mercury's 150HP XL FourStroke pairs a 25-inch shaft with 150 HP from a lightweight, high-displacement four-cylinder design, weighing 455 lb with electric start and remote mechanical steering. Because it carries less weight than some other engines in its class, Mercury positions it for bass boats, aluminum console boats, open-bow runabouts, offshore fishing boats, and pontoons.
Why the lighter build matters
A lighter engine doesn't have to work as hard as a heavier one to push the same hull, which Mercury says helps boats plane faster, accelerate better, and hold fuel efficiency at cruising speed. The 3.0-liter EFI powerhead reaches full throttle between 5000 and 6000 RPM.
What to check before buying
The propeller is not included, so plan to buy one matched to your hull and intended use before this engine is ready to run. Make sure the 25-inch shaft suits your transom height, and budget for the mounting hardware Mercury does include along with the owner's manual and tool kit. A three-year Mercury Marine warranty is part of the package, and the engine runs on electronic fuel injection rather than a carburetor.
What boats is this engine suited to? Mercury lists bass boats, aluminum console boats, open-bow runabouts, offshore fishing boats, and pontoons.
Does it include a propeller? No, one must be purchased separately.
Is steering remote or tiller? Remote, through mechanical controls rather than a tiller handle.
