Details & Inspection Notes

Pairing a 25-inch extra-long shaft with the Command Thrust gearcase, this new Mercury 115HP EXLPT FourStroke targets boats with a tall transom that still need Command Thrust's larger propeller and stronger low-speed bite.

Tall transom plus extra pulling power

Larger pontoons and heavier center consoles with a taller transom than average are the usual fit for this combination, where the extra leg length keeps the gearcase at the right depth and the bigger-diameter Command Thrust propeller keeps the boat planing rather than bogging down under a heavy load at low speed.

Specifications and equipment

Running 8 valves on a single overhead cam across a 2.1-liter inline four fed by multi-port EFI, this engine comes in at 359 pounds dry with a rev ceiling of 5000-6000 rpm. Mounting hardware, a tool kit, and the printed manual accompany it, covered by a 3-year Mercury Marine warranty. You will need to source your own propeller, matched to your hull and load.

Is the Command Thrust gearcase confirmed on this engine? Yes. What shaft length does it use? 25 inches, for a tall transom. Does the extra shaft length cost anything in performance? Not meaningfully, as long as it is matched to the transom it was built for; a shaft that is the wrong length for your boat is the more common problem. Who should look at this one first? Owners of larger pontoons or heavier center consoles with a tall transom who also want Command Thrust's low-speed pulling power rather than a plain FourStroke.
