Details & Inspection Notes

This kit builds a complete manual conversion around the TREMEC T56 Magnum 6-speed transmission, aimed at swapping a 6-speed into anything using a Gen III or Gen IV GM LS engine with a 6-bolt crankshaft, covering LY6, L92, L76, LQ4, LQ9, and the LS1, LS2, LS3, and LS6 family alongside the broader 4.8-to-6.2-liter car and truck variants. The transmission itself is rated for 700 lb-ft of torque and shifts cleanly up to 7,800 RPM.

What makes an LS swap kit different from a bare transmission

Rather than selling the T56 Magnum on its own, this package is built around it: a steel bellhousing and matching hardware, a billet steel flywheel paired with a performance clutch, and a hydraulic release bearing on a pilot bearing, with reverse light, reverse lockout, and electronic speedometer wiring pigtails thrown in so the electrical side is already sorted. Inside, synchronizers machined from carbon and sintered bronze ride on a 26-spline input shaft and a 31-spline output shaft to back up that torque rating.

Confirm crank and block compatibility first

Gen III and Gen IV LS blocks with a 6-bolt crankshaft are what this kit is built around; it will not work on 1999-2000 6.0L engines with a long crankshaft, or on 8-bolt or 9-bolt crankshaft engines, so check which crankshaft your specific LS block uses before ordering. A crossmember, a transmission mount, a slip yoke, and driveshaft work are left for the installer to source and match to the chassis.

Does the overdrive gearing hurt acceleration? The double overdrive is there for cruising, and the lower gears still handle the launch, so highway RPM drops without giving up the close gearing most of these swaps are built for.

Coverage runs for 1 year against defects traced to materials or assembly, as long as the kit is installed and used as intended.

Startup & Installation Checklist

  • Inspect all external gaskets, seals, spark plugs and timing components prior to installation.
  • Refill engine oil, transmission gear oil and coolant to manufacturer-specified capacities before initial cranking.
  • Prime the lubrication system and verify ECU wiring pinouts, sensors, and ground connections.
  • Startup warranty covers internal lubricated components, cylinder heads, and engine block for 30 days from delivery.
