Details & Inspection Notes
Rated for up to 500 horsepower, the Hughes Performance 35-1 is a remanufactured Chevy-pattern 3-speed automatic built with a 2.52 first gear ratio and a stock-style steel pan finished in chrome. It runs an Automatic/Manual valve body on a forward shift pattern, with a 30-spline input shaft and a 6.000-inch tailshaft.
A longer tailshaft than some Hughes street units
At 6.000 inches, the tailshaft on the 35-1 runs longer than some of Hughes' other street and strip cases, so check your existing driveshaft length and slip-on yoke against that specific dimension rather than assuming parts interchange with a shorter-tailshaft unit. Keeping the stock pan style here holds ground clearance closer to factory than a deep pan would, which matters on a lower-riding street car.
What to plan for separately
This transmission ships without a torque converter, flexplate, controller, wiring harness, or cooler, so budget for those as separate purchases. Check that your bellhousing matches the Chevy bolt pattern before ordering, since the case is built specifically around it, and confirm your crossmember clears the 6.000-inch tailshaft length.
Is a 500-horsepower rating enough for a street build? It depends on how the vehicle is driven; the figure describes what the internals in this particular case are built to handle, not a fixed outcome for every engine.
