Details & Inspection Notes
The Hughes Performance Competition Transmission 28-3-69B2D is a remanufactured 2-speed automatic built for Chevy bellhousing applications and rated to handle up to 1,500 horsepower, with a full manual valve body and a forward shift pattern. A billet planetary gear set using 9310 gears sits behind a 1.69 first gear ratio, inside an aluminum case with a built-in transmission shield and flexplate shield.
Built for the starting line, not daily driving
A full manual valve body means every shift is driver-initiated, which suits a dedicated race car far better than a street-driven one. The long-style case uses a 1.625-inch tailshaft and a 30-spline input, so pair it with a torque converter, flexplate, and driveshaft sized to match, rather than assuming stock hardware will bolt up. Fluid fills through the case on this unit, which is worth planning for alongside your cooler lines.
Safety certification and liner
This unit carries an SFI 4.1/30.1 rating with the required safety liner built in, which many sanctioning bodies call for before a transmission can run on a prepared track. Because it is remanufactured rather than new, expect previously-run core components rebuilt inside the case and planetary to that same 1,500-horsepower rating.
Does it include a torque converter or cooler? No; the transmission is sold alone, with converter, flexplate, controller, wiring, and cooler all separate.
