Details & Inspection Notes
These Hooker competition headers, part 1901-1HKR, are built from 16-gauge mild steel with mandrel-bent primary tubes for 1968-1974 AMC engines in the 290 to 401 cubic-inch range, tuned in length for street use rather than all-out racing.
What makes these headers different
A long transition collector cuts back pressure and keeps exhaust flowing, and 5/16-inch machined flanges with welded O-ring seals are sized to hold a tight seal at each exhaust port over time. Mandrel bending keeps tube diameter consistent through every curve, which matters for both flow and durability where a crush-bent header would thin out and weaken.
What to check before ordering
The standard finish is a heat-cured, high-heat-resistant paint; a ceramic thermal barrier coating is also offered as an upgrade if you want more heat protection in the engine bay. These headers are designed to clear factory power steering and power brake components, and all mounting hardware is included, so confirm your AMC's accessory layout matches a factory setup if you have made other engine-bay changes.
Do these headers fit with power steering and power brakes? Yes, they are designed to work with factory power steering and power brake setups.
Can I get a coating other than the standard paint? Yes, a ceramic thermal barrier coating is available as an option.
