Details & Inspection Notes

This G-Force RCG-700 transmission crossmember is built for 1978-1988 G-Body cars and covers a wide range of swaps, since it fits the 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E, TKO-500, and TKO-600 transmissions interchangeably. G-Force groups these together because they share the same overall length and mounting measurements.

What to check before installing

The crossmember seats with its exhaust-clearance humps closed on top and open on the bottom, and the passenger-side hump sits taller than the driver's side, so orientation matters during install. On some cars the passenger-side catalytic converter heat shield has to come off the floor pan before the crossmember will clear it.

Fitment notes for G-Body floors

This generation of G-Body is prone to body-bushing compression, even on cars that never saw salt or snow, and a sagging floor pan can leave too little room to fit the crossmember into place. If that happens, some owners have had success swapping worn body bushings first, or gently jacking the floor pan upward with a block of wood on the jack pad to open temporary clearance for installation.

Will this work with my TKO five- or six-speed? Yes, it is sized for both the TKO-500 and TKO-600 in addition to the automatic overdrives listed.

Do I need to modify anything else? Possibly; some installs need the passenger-side heat shield removed, and persistently tight floors may need the body bushings addressed first.

Performance Installation & Verification Checklist

  • Disconnect vehicle battery ground terminal before installing any electrical, sensor, or powertrain hardware.
  • Inspect all vacuum lines, fuel lines, and wiring harness connectors for secure, leak-free engagement.
  • Calibrate electronic sensors, boost control solenoids, and ECU maps according to manufacturer instructions.
  • Perform initial datalogging check under light load before subjecting vehicle to wide-open throttle.
