Details & Inspection Notes
The Evinrude E115SNL is a used 115 HP outboard motor tuned specifically for pontoons rather than offered as a general-purpose 115 HP unit. Evinrude built this V4, 60-degree E-TEC with gear ratios and software mapping aimed at a loaded, low-planing hull, not a bass boat or center console, and that distinction is worth knowing before you compare it against a plain 115 HP outboard.
What the pontoon tuning changes
A straight-edged gear case up front is shaped to shed weeds rather than snag them, and the water intakes are built for efficient flow, so the engine runs cooler and the lower unit holds up better over a season of use. The mapping and gearing aim to help a pontoon loaded with people and gear come up on plane sooner, answer the throttle faster, and stop more assuredly when you back off, rather than chase the highest possible top speed. None of that changes how you rig the boat; it changes how the motor behaves once it is on the water.
Specifications and rigging
Bore and stroke come in at 3.62 in (92 mm) and 2.60 in (66 mm), for a displacement of 105.4 cu in, or 1726 cc, or 1.7 L depending which figure you need. The gear ratio is 2.25:1, the throttle runs 5500 to 6000 RPM, and a 133-amp alternator (50 net) supports the boat's electronics along with starting. Steering is remote, starting is electric, controls are mechanical, and the shaft measures 20 in (508 mm). At 390 lbs (177 kg), plan for a transom and mounting bracket rated for this weight class before you take delivery.
Will this work on a non-pontoon boat? Nothing stops it mechanically, but the gear case and mapping are built around pontoon use specifically.
