Details & Inspection Notes

This Dynacorn 1046G firewall is the heater-style version, meaning it is built for cars without factory air conditioning, and it fits both the 1968-1969 Chevrolet Camaro and the 1968-1969 Pontiac Firebird, which share this firewall stamping.

What it is

A complete replacement firewall panel rather than a patch piece, intended for cars whose original firewall is rusted through, previously cut for an engine swap, or otherwise unusable. Dynacorn builds its restoration sheet metal from new tooling, so panel contours and mounting holes are meant to match factory dimensions closely enough for a direct-style installation on these two closely related GM platforms.

Before you install it

Because this is the no-A/C, heater-only firewall, confirm the car being restored did not come with factory air conditioning, or plan to modify the firewall separately if it did; the holes and reliefs for an A/C evaporator box are not part of this panel. As with any full firewall swap, it is worth test-fitting the panel against the cowl, inner fenders, and floor pan before final welding, and marking the locations of brake and clutch pedal pass-throughs, wiring grommets, and heater core openings against the car's existing hardware so nothing has to be re-cut later. Since it covers both the Camaro and Firebird, double check which emblem or trim differences, if any, apply to the specific car before ordering any firewall-mounted trim to go with it.

Performance Installation & Verification Checklist

  • Disconnect vehicle battery ground terminal before installing any electrical, sensor, or powertrain hardware.
  • Inspect all vacuum lines, fuel lines, and wiring harness connectors for secure, leak-free engagement.
  • Calibrate electronic sensors, boost control solenoids, and ECU maps according to manufacturer instructions.
  • Perform initial datalogging check under light load before subjecting vehicle to wide-open throttle.
