Details & Inspection Notes

Chevrolet's "604 crate" formula tops out at 400 hp, with torque matching that same figure at 400 lb-ft; horsepower shows up by 5,500 on the tach, torque by 4,500. Aluminum Fast Burn cylinder heads with 210cc intake runners handle the breathing, intake valves running 2.00 inches across and exhaust valves 1.55. It is popular in Late Model, Modified, and other classes that call for this spec of engine.

Bottom end and cam details

A forged-steel crankshaft and hypereutectic aluminum pistons run under a hydraulic roller tappet camshaft; duration splits 208 degrees intake to 221 exhaust, with .474 and .510 inch of lift to match. Compression is 9.6:1, with the engine externally balanced and a 62cc combustion chamber in each cylinder head.

What this package includes

The oil pan, timing cover, valve covers, and cylinder heads all ship assembled on the engine, along with the intake manifold and harmonic balancer. None of the fuel, ignition, or EFI hardware comes along: no carburetor, distributor, water pump, flywheel, computer, or wiring harness, and an externally balanced unit is what you will need to mate it to your transmission. At 7 inches deep at the sump, the oil pan sits shallower than some circle track pans, sized to tuck under the stock location on most GM rear-steer cars without extra clearancing.

Q: How deep is the oil pan? It measures 7 inches deep at the sump on this engine, shallower than some other circle track pans in this lineup.

Q: Does it come with a distributor? No, a distributor is not included with this package; plan to add one along with your ignition components.
