Details & Inspection Notes

This Short Block Plus leaves out the cylinder heads and induction entirely: 430 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque on 10.0:1 compression, built around a steel crankshaft and hypereutectic pistons, for builders who already have heads, an intake, and ignition picked out for their own combination.

What's in the short block

The main bearing bore is align-honed, the main caps use four bolts apiece, and a passenger-side dipstick position is machined in at the factory. That bottom end carries the steel crankshaft, hypereutectic pistons with a 12cc dish, and new connecting rods. The rods are rated to 150,000 psi at the bolts, and Hastings supplies the moly rings that seal the pistons. A Melling high-volume oil pump feeds a hydraulic roller camshaft running on a heavy-duty, single-roller timing set. A harmonic balancer, an oil pan, and a timing cover are installed, and brass freeze plugs are fitted at the back of the block. BluePrint dyno tests the short block and ships those results with it.

What you supply

Cylinder heads, an intake, ignition, and a carburetor or EFI system are all left to the builder here, along with any accessory drive your swap needs. This is new, not reconditioned, and this particular short block does not include coverage, so confirm terms with us before ordering if that matters for your build. California installs should work through the state's Bureau of Automotive Repairs engine-change policy for this kind of swap.

Startup & Installation Checklist

  • Inspect all external gaskets, seals, spark plugs and timing components prior to installation.
  • Refill engine oil, transmission gear oil and coolant to manufacturer-specified capacities before initial cranking.
  • Prime the lubrication system and verify ECU wiring pinouts, sensors, and ground connections.
  • Our 2-year warranty covers internal lubricated components, cylinder heads and engine block from delivery, in addition to your statutory rights.
