Details & Inspection Notes
This base-dressed, low-profile 383 is sized for Corvettes, Tri-Five Chevys, and Camaros with tight engine bays: the usual 436 horsepower, 443 pound-feet, 10.0:1 compression, carbureted, but without the deluxe front accessory-drive package BluePrint sells on some of its other 383 dress levels.
What's different about low profile
Up front, the harmonic balancer shrinks to 6.75 inches and the distributor goes small-cap, ready to run, with its own tach drive and coil built in. Under-header spark plug wires suit Rams Horn-style manifolds. A 750-cfm carburetor rides a single-plane aluminum intake, with a fuel pump and feed line, an oil pan, a timing cover, and a water pump all installed at the factory.
Vehicle-specific notes
C2 Corvette installs will need a modified or replaced hood and motor mounts, BluePrint says. The aftermarket intake here may not line up with factory-style accessory brackets that bolt to bosses cast into a stock intake, so check your accessory plan before ordering. This engine isn't intended for pollution-controlled vehicles. Buyers get 30 months or 50,000 miles of coverage from BluePrint, the same term used across its 383 lineup.
Does this include the accessory-drive pulley kit? No; that's reserved for the deluxe low-profile listing. This base-dressed version leaves the alternator and power-steering mounts to the builder.
