Details & Inspection Notes

This deluxe-dressed 383 pairs the familiar 436-horsepower, 443-pound-foot output at 10.0:1 compression with a complete front accessory drive, so mounting points for the compressor, the alternator, and the steering pump are already sorted around a carbureted induction setup.

Dress package

A 750-cfm carburetor rides a factory aluminum intake, fired by an HEI distributor. The front end also carries spark plugs with wires, a long-style water pump, a fuel pump, a harmonic balancer, and valve covers, and the oil pan and timing cover underneath are both installed. The whole combination is dyno tested, with results shipped alongside the engine. The cylinder heads and camshaft follow BluePrint's familiar 383 spec: aluminum heads, hydraulic roller lobes, over a cast steel crank and hypereutectic pistons.

Fitment

BluePrint's note on this one is specific: the front accessory package does not work on Corvette applications, and the engine is not meant for pollution-controlled vehicles generally. It's sold new. Installers putting this into a California vehicle should work through the state Bureau of Automotive Repairs' engine-change rules rather than treating it as an OEM swap. Coverage runs for 30 months or 50,000 miles from BluePrint directly, matching its other dressed 383 listings.

Will I still need to add pulleys separately? No, the front drive package here already brings the air-conditioning hardware and the power-steering pump along with it, ready to belt up.

Startup & Installation Checklist

  • Inspect all external gaskets, seals, spark plugs and timing components prior to installation.
  • Refill engine oil, transmission gear oil and coolant to manufacturer-specified capacities before initial cranking.
