Details & Inspection Notes

Weight reduction is the whole idea behind Bert's short-case Gen II gearbox: once it's shifted into high gear, the first and reverse gear sets disengage entirely rather than keep spinning, which is why circle track racers run it. This kit bundles that short-case 2-speed unit with a steel bellhousing sized for small block Chevy or Ford engines carrying a 1-piece rear main seal.

Where it's raced

Wissota, IMCA, and Midwest Modified rules all permit this gearbox, along with Sport Mod and Hobby Stock classes, since the aluminum case and the reduced rotating weight suit dirt and oval competition rather than any street-driven build. The torque rating here is 600 lb-ft, matching the rest of Bert's Gen II lineup.

What's in the box

Beyond the transmission and bellhousing, expect a bolt kit, a drive flange made for the 1-piece seal, a bottle of performance fluid, a braided brake line with an AN fitting, and a stand for storing or servicing the unit on a bench. Plan to supply your own driveshaft, slip yoke, and shift linkage, since none of those three ship with this package.

Common questions

Can I run this on the street? No, Bert builds it exclusively for competition use.

Is a shifter included? No, only the transmission, bellhousing, and the hardware listed above ship here.

A 1-year limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, provided the transmission is installed and raced normally.
