2020 Mercury 4 HP 4MLH Outboard Motor

The Mercury 4 HP 4MLH is the long-shaft version of Mercury's smallest portable outboard, built for small fishing boats and sailboat auxiliary use with a 20-inch leg instead of the short shaft on the 4MH. It is new, manual-start, tiller-steered, and weighs 58.0 lbs.

Longer shaft for a taller transom

Choose this 20-inch version over a shorter sibling in the same line when your boat's transom sits higher; the added weight comes from the longer leg rather than any change to the powerhead itself. A carry handle keeps it manageable to move despite the extra length.

Construction and running gear

A forward-mounted lever works the forward-neutral-reverse shift, driven by a 2.15:1 gearset and CDI ignition with spark advance. The lower unit protects itself against corrosion with sacrificial anodes, a corrosion-resistant water pump housing, and zinc coatings on the water passages, all inside marine-grade alloy castings.

Does it include a propeller? Yes, a 3-blade aluminum prop is fitted before it ships.

What's in the box besides the motor? A tool kit, the printed manual, and a bottle of Mercury 4-stroke oil for the first service.

As a new, model-year 2020 unit, it comes with Mercury Marine's 3-year warranty starting from commissioning. Since the extra shaft length is the only real difference from its short-shaft sibling, rigging and break-in steps are otherwise identical between the two.
