2020 Mercury 3.5 HP 3.5MLH Outboard Motor

This 2020 Mercury 3.5MLH is a new 3.5 horsepower portable outboard with a 20 inch shaft, tiller steering, and manual start, weighing just 43 lbs with an integrated carry handle built in.

Who it suits

Mercury pitches the 3.5 HP at small canoes, tenders, and small inflatables, where low weight counts for more than raw power. A single-cylinder four-stroke drives it, with a larger carburetor than other motors in its class for a bit more performance.

Build and rigging

The block is high-grade marine alloy with a stainless steel water pump housing and zinc-coated water passages, plus sacrificial zinc anodes, so Mercury rates it for saltwater use. Steering is tiller with 360 degree movement and a tension feature, throttle is twist-grip with its own tension control, and the integral tank holds 1.0 liter. Trim and tilt are manual, with 4 trim positions, and the motor includes a visual oil level indicator plus over-rev protection.

Full throttle runs 5000-6000 rpm, bore and stroke are 2.16 by 1.42 inches, and the gear ratio is 2.15:1 with forward-neutral shift, reverse coming from the 360 degree steering rather than a separate gear.
