Details & Inspection Notes
The Yamaha F60JB is the jet-drive version of Yamaha's 60 hp four-cylinder four-stroke, built to run in shallow water where a conventional propeller and skeg would ground out. The F60JB carries a 25-inch shaft, hooks into a console's steering cable, starts on a key, and weighs 257 lbs.
Who it suits
Jet outboards like the F60JB are the right call for rivers, flats and launch ramps with rocks, sand bars or weed beds close to the surface, trading some top-end efficiency for the ability to run in water too thin for a prop-driven motor of the same horsepower. This is new stock from Yamaha, rigged specifically for jet-pump duty rather than a prop shaft.
Before you order
A jet unit needs its intake grate kept clear of debris, and the F60JB's 996cc EFI powerhead is tuned for the jet's load rather than a propeller's, so do not plan on swapping this lower unit for a standard gearcase later. Full throttle is rated between 5000 and 6000 rpm.
Common questions
Can I fit a propeller lower unit instead? No, the F60JB is built around the jet drive, not a prop shaft.
Is this new or used? New, and Yamaha backs the F60JB with a 3-year warranty.
Does shallow running shorten engine life? Keep the intake clear and the jet pump holds up well to shallow use.
