Details & Inspection Notes
Yamaha's 2019 F25SWC puts remote mechanical steering on the short, 15-inch-shaft F25, with electric starting backed by a manual pull cord, for 126 pounds total. It is built for lower-transom boats that are still run from a console rather than a tiller.
Why remote steering on a short shaft
Not every low-transom boat is tiller-steered; smaller center consoles and bay boats can have a 15-inch-shaft cutout and still run cable steering to the stern. This configuration exists for that exact combination, rather than forcing a choice between shaft length and control type.
Before ordering
Verify the 15-inch shaft suits your transom, and check that your console already has a cable run through to the stern for mechanical steering, since there is no tiller fallback here. A battery lets you use the electric starter, and the pull cord works as a backup.
Engine
Two-cylinder, 432cc four-stroke, EFI induction.
Tighten and recheck
Mounting bolts can work slightly loose over the first few hours of running as everything settles in, so give the transom bracket bolts a torque check after initial break-in rather than assuming the first installation is the last word on it.
Common questions
Is this tiller or console steering? Console, through remote mechanical controls.
What if the battery fails? The manual pull cord still gets the engine running; it ships new with Yamaha's factory terms.
