Details & Inspection Notes

The 2019 Yamaha F25SMHC trims the shaft to 15 inches, keeps starting manual only, and settles at 126 pounds, making it the lightest F25 configuration in this batch. It is a tiller-handled outboard meant for smaller hulls with lower transoms.

Measure your transom first

A 15-inch shaft sits noticeably higher in the water than Yamaha's longer-shaft F25 siblings, so putting it on a tall transom will leave the propeller too shallow and the engine prone to cavitating. Confirm your transom height before anything else.

Who this suits

Smaller aluminum boats, jon boats and similar craft with lower transoms, where the owner is comfortable pull-starting the engine by hand and doesn't need console steering, are the right match for this configuration.

Engine

432cc, two cylinders, electronic fuel injection.

Before the season starts

Pull the propeller occasionally to check the splines and the condition of the shear hardware; grass, fishing line and debris tend to wrap around a lower unit over a season and are far easier to clear during a routine check than after they've caused damage underway.

Common questions

Does this need a battery? No, it starts with a pull cord only, no electrical system involved, which keeps the overall weight down.

Is this a new motor? Yes, with Yamaha's standard coverage for new units, and it has never been registered or run by a previous owner.
