Reading the spec sheet

Ignition is CDI with electronic spark advance, cooling runs water through a thermostat, and the gearcase spins at 2.15:1 through forward, neutral, and reverse. Mercury rates the motor for saltwater, lubrication is wet-sump, and an alternator option (12V, 50W, 4A) can be installed if you want to run lights or electronics, though it is not standard equipment on this build.

Fit and daily use

Steering and shift both run through the tiller handle, which puts the control point right at the stern rather than at a console. The shaft measures a full 20 inches, so pair it with a transom tall enough to need that length. An internal 0.3-gallon tank handles short trips, with a remote-tank connection available for anything longer; Mercury specifies 87-octane fuel with no more than 10 percent ethanol content. The propeller is a 3-blade aluminum unit matched to this engine's rpm band, and weight comes in at 58 lbs. Flush the cooling passages with fresh water after any saltwater outing.
