2019 Mercury 20 HP EFI 20MH Outboard Motor

Mercury's 2019 20MH EFI brings fuel injection to the short-shaft, manual-start side of the 20 HP tiller lineup, on a 15-inch shaft, at a 103-pound dry weight.

EFI instead of a carburetor

Electronic fuel injection on this 333cc powerhead is built to start and run more consistently across temperatures than Mercury's carbureted 20 HP models, while this manual-start version skips the starter motor and battery that electric-start 20 HP EFI models need. An optional 12-amp, 138-watt alternator can still be fitted for charging needs without moving up to full electric start.

Fitment

Transom height, not preference, decides whether this short-shaft 20 HP engine or Mercury's 20-inch long-shaft version belongs on your boat. This engine is rated for saltwater use, which matters for anyone running it in anything other than fresh water.

Why EFI on a small tiller motor

Fuel injection on an engine this size mostly shows up in how it behaves when cold or sitting unused for a stretch, starting and settling into an idle with less fussing than a carbureted engine of the same size typically needs, particularly once ethanol-blended fuel has had time to go slightly stale in the tank.
