2019 Evinrude 15 HP E15HPSL

This is the white, 20-inch shaft edition of Evinrude's 2019 High Output 15 hp E-TEC outboard, model E15HPSL. Electric or rope starts it, the throttle is remote (tiller control is also fitted), and it weighs 181 lbs.

Under the cowling

Bore and stroke of 2.992 x 2.5 in produce 35.2 cubic inches (577 cc) of displacement from the 2-cylinder, direct-injection E-TEC block, turning a 2.15:1 final gear through 5,000-5,500 rpm at full throttle. Fifteen of the alternator's 56 amps are dedicated to charging. High-speed power tilt handles a 75-degree range, with trim adjustable from -6 to 15 inches.

There are no belts, camshafts, or exhaust valves to wear out in the design, and the Straight Leading Edge gearcase's weed-shedding shape and efficient water pickups help keep running temperatures in check across a season. Auto-winterization fogs the engine at the end of the season without a trip to a dealer.

Maintenance and coverage

The 1.7-gallon tank runs on Evinrude/Johnson XD-100 oil, and 87-octane gas is the fuel spec. Coverage is 3 years, non-declining, matched to EPA 2013 and CARB 3-Star emissions ratings.
