2018 Yamaha VF150 V MAX SHO 2.8L VF150LA Outboard Motor

This is the 2018 Yamaha VF150LA, a new 150 HP in-line four-cylinder V MAX SHO rigged for mechanical control. At 2.8 liters and 480 lbs dry it is built for bass, bay and flats boats that need a quick hole shot without the bulk of a V6.

Why the in-line four layout matters

Because the engine runs as a four-stroke in-line four, there is no external oil tank taking up space in the hull, so rigging stays simple and the boat keeps more room for tackle and gear. The 50-amp alternator covers livewells, electronics and trolling motors without strain, and wet-sump lubrication keeps the oiling system compact.

What to confirm before you order

This unit has a 20-inch shaft and remote mechanical controls, so match it to a transom and control head built for that setup. It works with analog gauges as well as 6Y5 digital or Command Link displays, which gives some flexibility if the boat is already wired for one of those. Gear shift runs forward, neutral and reverse through a 2.00:1 ratio.

Built-in protection

The engine warning system watches oil pressure and overheating and will pull the rev limit down automatically if either goes out of range, alongside over-rev, water-in-fuel and start-in-gear protection. Yamaha's five-layer electro-deposited paint system over its YDC-30 alloy is standard on this engine for corrosion resistance.
