Details & Inspection Notes
Yamaha redesigned the F9.9 for 2018, and this Portable Mechanical version, code F9.9LEB, now sits close in size to Yamaha's older 9.9 two-stroke, on a 20-inch shaft. Starting is manual or electric, and the twin-cylinder block displaces 212 cc at a dry weight of 87 lbs.
Fit and protection
Measure transom height against the 20-inch figure here before ordering. A narrower center section in the driveshaft on this redesigned F9.9 is built to twist if the propeller hits something underwater, protecting the powerhead and propshaft rather than passing the shock straight through the gearcase.
Control and storage
Front-mounted controls handle shifting, shallow-water drive and steering friction adjustment from one place, and a resting pad adds storage stability once the tiller handle is folded down to save space. A 12-volt, 6-amp alternator handles basic charging, cooling is water with thermostatic control, and this twin-cylinder four-stroke runs noticeably more efficiently than the two-stroke 9.9-hp models it replaces.
What fuel and oil does it use? Regular unleaded at minimum 87 octane and Yamalube 4-M FC-W oil, with about 0.8 liters of capacity. Where does it redline? Full throttle sits near 6000 rpm. Does it come with the resting pad as standard? Yes, it is part of this redesigned F9.9's storage setup, along with the shortened, reshaped tiller handle.
