Details & Inspection Notes
The F225XB trim steps up an existing boat's displacement without forcing a rigging change, pairing remote mechanical controls with a 4.2-liter V6 sized for 20-foot decks and deep-Vs. It comes in at 551 lbs dry on a 25-inch shaft, displacing 4169cc.
Block and bore
Cylinder walls here use a plasma-fused, sleeveless process that Yamaha rates at roughly 60 percent harder than steel, letting the bore grow without the outer block getting any bigger. Individual intake and exhaust camshafts cut moving parts compared with a conventional rocker-arm layout.
Buyer notes
Because this is a mechanical-control engine rather than digital, it tends to suit a repower where the boat already has working cables and a binnacle; swapping an older boat over to digital wiring from scratch adds real cost that a straight mechanical-for-mechanical repower avoids. Amperage from the charging system scales up with rpm, and a patented shift dampener softens each gear change on the way through neutral. Buyers moving up from a smaller V6 on the same hull often keep their existing gauges and simply re-splice the control cables, which keeps labor cost down compared with a full rewire.
Pleasure and government coverage each run three years on this model, with one year for commercial use. Confirm your exact rigging and propeller choice with us before ordering, since this motor typically ships as a bare powerhead.
