Details & Inspection Notes
This 2017 Yamaha VF175LA is a new in-line four V MAX SHO, built on a 2.8-liter, 16-valve, double-overhead-cam platform rated at 175 HP at 5,500 RPM.
Engine tech on this build
Variable camshaft timing adjusts intake-cam angle to help throttle response outside of wide-open throttle, four independent injectors feed a tuned long-track induction system, and an exhaust tuned to recycle blow-by gas for a cleaner reburn keeps the package compact for its output.
Specs for this build
Dry weight is 480 lbs on a 20-inch shaft, gear ratio is 1.86:1, and oil capacity with filter is 4.5 liters (7.1 qt). Compression ratio is 10.3:1, and the alternator is rated 50 amps.
Tilt and trim? 70 degrees of tilt, trim from -4 to +16 degrees.
Ethanol tolerance? Up to a 10 percent blend.
How clean does it run? C.A.R.B. rates it three stars for emissions.
Power trim and tilt come with electric start, cooling is thermostatically controlled, lubrication is wet-sump, and gear shift runs forward, neutral and reverse. Warranty terms are the standard three years pleasure use, three years government use, one year commercial use. On a 20-inch shaft at 480 lbs dry, this engine suits boats already set up for an in-line four rather than the heavier V6 SHO family.
