Details & Inspection Notes

This 2017 Yamaha VF250XA is a new 250 HP V6 V MAX SHO built with a 25-inch shaft for boats that need the extra length, model code VF250XA.

Top-end power on the long shaft

Double overhead cams, four large-radius valves per cylinder and a long-track intake delivering electronic multi-point fuel injection give this powerhead its top-of-range output. A knock sensor guards ignition timing so the engine can run closer to its performance limit without risking detonation.

Rigging for the longer shaft

Mounting centers are set at 28.6 inches and steering swings to a maximum of 35 degrees off-center. Idle output already reaches 46 amps of the alternator's 50-amp ceiling, and the final drive runs 1.75:1.

Oil capacity? The engine takes 6.7 liters (7.1 qt) once the filter is fitted.

How far do trim and tilt travel? Trim swings -4 through +16 degrees, tilt up to 66 degrees.

What fuel should I run? Regular unleaded at a minimum 89 octane, and the engine tolerates up to a 10 percent ethanol mix.

Any emissions rating? C.A.R.B. rates the emissions three stars, alongside a 10.3:1 compression ratio.

Electric start comes with power trim and tilt built in, cooling runs water/thermostatic, and Yamaha's coverage on this engine splits out to three years for pleasure use, three for government use, and a single year once it goes into commercial service.
