Details & Inspection Notes
The 2017 Yamaha VF200LA is a new 200 HP V6 V MAX SHO that peaks at 5,500 RPM. As the entry point into Yamaha's V6 SHO range, it carries a 20-inch shaft and a 505 lb dry weight on a six-cylinder, 60-degree, 4.2-liter block.
What the V6 platform adds over an in-line four
Plasma-fused, sleeveless cylinder bores let Yamaha push displacement up without adding bulk, and double overhead cams work four large valves per cylinder for stronger breathing at higher RPM. A knock sensor protects the ignition timing, and the long-track induction system feeds electronic multi-point fuel injection for even cylinder-to-cylinder delivery.
Rigging specifics for this motor
Maximum steering angle is 35 degrees from center in either direction, and mounting centers are set at 28.6 inches, so check both against your transom before ordering. The alternator produces 50 amps at full output, 46 amps at idle around 1,000 RPM. Oil capacity with filter is 6.7 liters, and recommended fuel is regular unleaded at a minimum of 87 octane.
What spark plug does it use? LFR6A-11-00-000, per Yamaha's specification for this engine.
Will it run on ethanol-blend gas? Up to a 10 percent blend.
What is the tilt and trim range? Tilt reaches 66 degrees, trim moves from -4 to +16 degrees, and compression ratio is 10.3:1.
Cooling runs through a water/thermostatic circuit, and C.A.R.B. rates this engine three stars for emissions. On warranty, pleasure and government use are both covered three years, commercial use for one year.
