Details & Inspection Notes
Yamaha's 2017 F9.9 F9.9LMHB uses the mid-length, 20-inch (L) shaft, splitting the difference between shorter and longer shaft options on the same 9.9 hp, twin-cylinder, 212 cc motor. Dry weight is 89 lbs.
Matching shaft to transom
Yamaha also builds this F9.9 on other shaft lengths that will not sit correctly on a different transom height, so measure against the 20-inch figure here before ordering. Tilt climbs to 71 degrees over 4 trim steps, mounting centers sit 28.6 inches apart, and the helm turns 43 degrees from center in either direction.
Starting and specs
Starting is manual or electric, and the 6-amp alternator needs a rectifier and regulator to keep a battery charged. Compression is 9.46:1 across a 2.48-inch bore and a 2.29-inch stroke. Regular unleaded, 87 octane or better, is the fuel spec, and oil capacity runs about 0.8 liters, with ethanol content capped at 10 percent, and full throttle peaks close to 6000 rpm.
Does it carry a C.A.R.B. rating? Yes, 3 stars, consistent with other small Yamaha four-strokes. What spark plug does it take? A BR6HS, the same as the other F9.9 shaft lengths. Can the shaft be swapped later? No, confirm the 20-inch figure fits the boat before ordering, since the housing is specific to this length.
