Details & Inspection Notes
Yamaha's 2017 F9.9 F9.9LEB is the extra-long-shaft (X=25 inch) version of the 9.9 hp twin-cylinder portable, built for a taller transom than Yamaha's other F9.9 shaft lengths. At 93 lbs dry, it is the heaviest of the group, simply from the longer driveshaft and housing.
Shaft length first
Yamaha sells this same F9.9LEB code on shorter shafts that sit differently on a given hull, so confirm the 25-inch figure here against the transom before anything else. Mounting centers measure 28.6 inches, steering swings 43 degrees off-center each way, and tilt tops out at 71 degrees across 4 trim positions.
Starting and running
This trim can be started manually or electrically, and the 6-amp alternator requires a rectifier and regulator to charge a battery. The cylinders run a 2.48-inch bore against a 2.29-inch stroke, at 9.46:1 compression. Minimum octane is 87 on regular unleaded fuel, with an oil capacity around 0.8 liters, and ethanol content is capped at 10 percent.
What spark plug does it use? A BR6HS plug. Where is peak rpm? Full throttle lands around 6000 rpm, and the carburetor is factory-set for that range. Does the X shaft interchange with the shorter trims? No, the 25-inch housing is specific to this LEB code; match it to transom height rather than swapping parts between shaft lengths.
