Details & Inspection Notes
Yamaha's 2017 F6 F6LMHA shares its 139 cc, single-cylinder block with the smaller F4, tuned up to 6 hp and mounted on the longer 20-inch (L) shaft. At 62 lbs dry, it suits jon boats, dinghies and sailboat auxiliary duty where low weight matters as much as thrust.
Picking the right shaft
Because the L code means a 20-inch shaft, measure transom height before ordering rather than defaulting to the shorter S version sold under the same F6 name. Mounting centers measure 28.6 inches apart, and the gearcase rows through forward, neutral and reverse on a 2.08:1 final ratio.
Operating notes
A CDI ignition manages this manual, pull-start motor. Fuel-wise, it wants 87-octane regular unleaded at minimum, with an oil fill of roughly six-tenths of a liter. The helm turns a full 90 degrees off straight-ahead in either direction, tilt climbs to 69 degrees across 5 trim steps, and exhaust routes above the propeller. Compression is 8.9:1, and a dynamically balanced crankshaft plus a long-span mounting system keep running vibration low.
Does it have an alternator? Only with an optional charging kit; there is no charging circuit built in by default. Is there an ethanol limit? Yes, Yamaha caps blended ethanol at 10 percent for this engine. What is the steering angle? A full 90 degrees off straight-ahead, either direction.
