Details & Inspection Notes

Add power tilt to the extra-long-shaft CommandThrust 9.9 and the result is this 2017 9.9EXLHPT-CT-PK: a 25-inch shaft, electric start, and an electrically operated tilt system rather than the manual ratcheting lever used on lighter versions in the same family of motors.

Who needs power tilt specifically

Manual ratcheting tilt works fine for occasional use, but a motor raised and lowered often, or mounted somewhere awkward to reach, benefits from the electric tilt fitted here. Pair that with the extra-long shaft for boats whose transoms sit higher than average, and you get a setup built for convenience over the course of a season.

Built for thrust, not top speed

A taller 2.42:1 gearcase drives the bigger four-blade propeller for low-speed control, the combination built to push a wider or heavier hull at low RPM rather than chase speed on open water. That reads better for sailboats and heavier tenders running this as auxiliary power than for a light, fast tiller boat built for quick hops.

Running it

Steering, throttle, and the shift lever all work from the tiller, and the unit is rated to handle saltwater duty without special treatment.

Common questions

Is the tilt manual or electric? Electric, power-operated tilt is standard on this version.

What shaft length does it use? The extra-long, 25-inch option.
