What to check before buying
Match this short shaft to your transom height; Nissan builds this same 9.8 HP engine on a longer shaft for taller boats as well. The twin-cylinder block is carbureted, with SOHC valve gear and a thermostat holding cooling-water temperature steady, cleared for saltwater use. A front-mounted lever shifts the 2.08-to-1 gearbox, turning a 3-blade aluminum propeller, 8.5 inches in diameter and 8.0 inches of pitch.
Fuel, charging, and extras
A 3.1-gallon tank outside the motor handles fuel, joined by its own quick-connect hose. A charging alternator isn't included on this pull-start model but can be fitted as a separate kit. The box holds a printed manual and tool kit, with Nissan's 5-year warranty covering the engine.
