Details & Inspection Notes
The NSF8A32 carries the same 8 HP, pull-start engine as its short-shaft sibling but on a longer, 20-inch shaft, aimed at boats whose transom sits a bit taller and still prefer a simple manual starter over a battery.
Who this fits
Pick the longer shaft when your boat calls for it; running a shaft too short leaves the propeller skipping near the surface, while too long drags it unnecessarily deep. The twin-cylinder engine uses SOHC valves and carburetor fuel delivery, cooled through a thermostat-controlled water loop, cleared for saltwater duty, and shifted forward-neutral-reverse at a 2.08-to-1 ratio, spinning a 3-blade aluminum propeller cut to 8.5 inches in diameter with 8.0 inches of pitch.
Fuel and extras
A tank rated at 3.1 gallons sits outside the motor, plumbed with its own hose. An alternator for onboard charging isn't built in on this manual-start model; it's available separately as an add-on kit. A manual, tool kit, and Nissan's 5-year warranty round out the package. Compared with the short-shaft version of this same 8 HP engine, the only real difference here is how far the leg reaches below the hull.
Common questions
What's different about the electric-start 8 HP? That version adds a push-button starter and a built-in alternator; this one keeps things simple with a pull cord.
Will this run in salt water? Yes, it carries a saltwater rating.
