Details & Inspection Notes
The Tohatsu MFS9.9EEPTUL is the long-shaft sibling in Tohatsu's 9.9 hp two-cylinder four-stroke line, built on a 25-inch shaft for taller transoms, with remote mechanical steering, electric-or-manual starting, and a listed weight of 119 lbs. EFI fuel delivery is standard rather than a carburetor, the same arrangement used across this engine family.
Why the extra shaft length exists
A 25-inch shaft is meant for a transom that sits higher above the water than a typical small boat, keeping the propeller at the correct depth; running too short a shaft on a tall transom leaves the prop skimming the surface instead of biting water cleanly. Measuring your transom before ordering avoids guessing between shaft lengths after the fact, since this specific listing is the long-shaft version only.
Steering and starting
Because steering is remote mechanical, this engine is meant to be paired with a console or side-mount control box and a cable run, not steered from a handle at the stern. Electric start covers everyday use off a charged battery, with the manual cord kept available if that circuit is ever down for any reason.
Running range
Full throttle falls between 5400 and 6100 rpm on this engine's two-cylinder, 333cc EFI design, the same powerhead used across Tohatsu's 9.9 hp family, just carried here on a longer leg for taller boats.
How much heavier is the long shaft? This unit is listed at 119 lbs.
Warranty? 5 years.
