Details & Inspection Notes

Transoms shorter than the standard spec used elsewhere in this family are what the MFS60AETS is built for: Tohatsu's 60 hp, three-cylinder, 866cc EFI four-stroke on a 15-inch shaft, with electric start and a choice of tiller or remote mechanical steering. The unit is rated at 215 lbs, and full throttle falls between 5000 and 6000 rpm.

Why shaft length matters on this model

Shorter shafts are meant to put the gear case at the right depth on a lower transom; mounting one on a taller boat runs the propeller too shallow and hurts both cooling flow and thrust, so this is one spec worth confirming by measurement rather than guesswork before ordering.

What drives the throttle feel

Dual intake valves, anodized piston crowns and a reworked roller rocker arm are behind the acceleration character of this block, and idle speed can be dialed anywhere between 650 and 950 rpm, which helps when trolling or maneuvering at low speed. A flushing port built into the lower unit and a 21 amp alternator round out the electrical and maintenance side, alongside a gear ratio set up for low-end torque over outright speed.

Can the shaft be lengthened later? No, shaft length is set at the factory, so order the length that matches the transom now.

Equipment on board includes power trim and tilt, a service tool kit, stop switch lanyard and owner's manual, with a 5 year warranty from Tohatsu.
