Details & Inspection Notes
Used stock of the Tohatsu BFT60ALRTA keeps the same bones as the new version: a 60 hp, three-cylinder EFI four-stroke at 998cc, with a lightweight Mikuni intake, a 20-inch shaft, remote mechanical steering and electric start. Weight for this configuration runs 243 lbs, or, on the edition of this block built to accept a tiller handle, 254 lbs, with full throttle still landing in the 5000-to-6000-rpm band, same as new.
What a used unit needs checking
Inspect the gear case, confirm water flow at the tell-tale, and ask when the water pump impeller was last replaced, since normal wear on these items does not show up until the engine is running under load. Budget for a pump service if the seller cannot confirm the schedule.
Fitment on this configuration
Remote mechanical steering needs a control box and cable run already installed on the boat, since this listing covers the power head rather than rigging hardware, and the shaft needs to match the transom being used.
What does the Mikuni intake add? It is part of why this block runs lighter than other engines at the same displacement, which can matter for weight balance on a smaller hull.
Does the factory warranty transfer? Tohatsu's coverage on this model runs 5 years from original purchase; ask us how much term is left on this unit.
