Details & Inspection Notes
Small-boat power from Tohatsu: this new MFS4DDL is a single-cylinder, 123cc four-stroke rated 4 hp, carried on a 20-inch shaft with tiller steering, manual start, and a weight of 59 lbs. The fuel tank sits built into the top of the cowling rather than hanging off to one side.
Who this motor suits
A compact single-cylinder four-stroke at this weight fits dinghies, small jon boats, inflatables and similar craft where every pound and every inch of deck space counts. Having the tank built into the top means you can be underway without first rigging a separate tank, which helps if you are launching and retrieving often from a car roof or a small trailer.
Fitting it to your boat
Measure your transom against the 20-inch shaft length before ordering; the propeller sits too high or too low relative to the hull if the shaft does not suit your boat. The carbureted fuel system tops out at a 4500-5500 rpm full-throttle range, and the internal .3-gallon tank can be supplemented with an external one through the fitting built into the motor. Rounding out the package are the usual day-one essentials, packed alongside the propeller: a lanyard-style cutoff, hand tools for routine care, and a printed manual.
- Propeller included
- Internal .3-gallon tank plus a fitting for an external tank
- Weight: 59 lbs
Can it run off an external tank? Yes, in addition to the internal tank. Is it electric or manual start? Manual pull start only.
