Details & Inspection Notes
This used jet-drive Tohatsu, model MFS35AJETETL, is rated 35 hp at the shaft and 50 hp at the powerhead. Weighing 234 lbs, it rigs a 20-inch shaft, electric start and tiller-or-remote-mechanical steering around a three-cylinder, 866cc EFI four-stroke.
Buying a used jet outboard
A jet lower unit takes the place of the propeller and gear case most buyers expect from an outboard, so confirm that your intended water, shallow rivers, sandbars, or rocky shoals, is actually what this drive type suits before buying. On a used jet motor it also pays to ask exactly which rigging pieces are included, since Tohatsu dropped several helm-side parts from its jet remote-control line a while back: expect the helm remote, tiller, cabling, gauges, separator, propeller, and fuel tank and line to be missing unless this particular used unit was rigged with them previously.
What stays the same under the cowling
The powerhead keeps its factory trim and tilt plus the jet lower unit, and the full-throttle band holds at 5000 to 6000 rpm on this used example just as it did when new. A handful of basic tools, the charging parts, and a printed manual travel with the engine too.
- Drive type: jet pump, not a propeller
- Powerhead rating: 50 hp
- Condition: used; verify included rigging with us before ordering
Is a propeller included? No, this motor uses a jet pump instead. Should I ask what rigging came with this specific unit? Yes, since that varies unit to unit on used jet motors.
