Details & Inspection Notes
Sold here used, the Tohatsu MFS30CWETL is a three-cylinder 30-hp four-stroke built for either tiller or remote-mechanical steering, with electric or manual start and a 20-inch shaft. At 182 lbs, Tohatsu markets this as one of the lighter engines in the three-cylinder 30-hp class.
Where this engine fits
Three cylinders at this horsepower is meant to balance smooth running against weight on the transom, which is the main reason Tohatsu promotes this version as among the lightest options at 30 hp. EFI fuel delivery and a 526cc displacement push the motor to a 5250-6250 rpm full-throttle range, giving enough room above cruising speed before the engine starts laboring.
Emissions and day-to-day use
This four-stroke meets EPA and CARB standards at the ultra-low end of the emissions scale, so the design leans on clean combustion rather than raw displacement for its output. Carrying both electric and manual start, plus the choice of tiller or remote steering, lets a single engine suit more than one rigging style without swapping major parts, and matching it to an existing helm layout is easier for that reason.
