Details & Inspection Notes

The MFS25CETL adds power trim and tilt to Tohatsu's 25hp four-stroke, letting you adjust running angle from the helm or tiller instead of setting it by hand. It carries the 526cc three-cylinder engine on a 20-inch shaft, starts electrically with a manual backup, and weighs 182 lbs, the extra weight over the base electric-start models coming from the trim and tilt hardware.

What trim and tilt changes

Being able to adjust the running angle while underway helps with getting onto plane and fine-tuning the ride at speed, something the base electric-start models without trim do not offer; it does mean an extra hydraulic unit drawing on the boat's electrical system.

Rigging parts to plan for

Like Tohatsu's other remote-capable 25hp motors, this one ships as a bare powerhead when it comes to remote gear: the sidemount box, cabling, gauges, a water/fuel separator, a propeller and the fuel tank and line all get ordered separately, as your boat requires.

Starter and what's included

Electric start is primary, with a manual pull-start as backup if the battery is low. Along with trim and tilt, the engine includes a circuit for charging the battery, a kit of basic tools and spare parts, a lanyard kill switch, and the owner's manual. Steering accepts either a tiller or a remote mechanical head.

Full throttle range runs 5000 to 6000 rpm on EFI induction, and Tohatsu's 5-year warranty covers the engine.

Common question

Does it have a manual backup starter? Yes, it starts electrically with a manual pull-start as a backup.
