Details & Inspection Notes
Counter-rotating and drive-by-wire come together in the Tohatsu BFT250DXCDA, a six-cylinder engine at 250 hp on a 25-inch shaft, electric-start, weighing 626 lbs.
Drive-by-wire plus counter-rotation
Steering on this build runs through a drive-by-wire link rather than mechanical cables, so confirm your control head and harness suit that setup before ordering it. This counter-rotating lower unit turns against the direction a standard engine would, intended for a twin-engine install beside a standard-rotation motor so the steering pull from each side balances out.
A mid-length shaft
This shaft runs a middle length for the 250 hp lineup, longer than the short-shaft build but shorter than the long-shaft one, suited to a transom of average depth; measure before ordering to confirm it fits your boat.
Power and equipment
Six cylinders and 3583cc of displacement give this engine a throttle band that runs from 5,300 rpm to 6,300. Power trim and tilt joins the counter-rotating lower unit, an electric starter, a fuel line hose, and the charging system, with a stop-switch lanyard and the printed manual finishing the kit.
Q: Does drive-by-wire steering need different helm hardware than a mechanical setup? Confirm your control head's compatibility with us before ordering a drive-by-wire build.
Q: Does this pair with a standard-rotation drive-by-wire engine at the same shaft length? Yes, Tohatsu builds that counterpart elsewhere in the 250 hp lineup.
