Details & Inspection Notes

The Tohatsu MFS20EEPTS brings power tilt to the short-shaft, remote-steer side of the 20 hp EFI line, with electric start, a 15-inch shaft, and a weight of 114 lbs. It shares control-head-based steering with the rest of the remote models rather than a tiller handle.

Short shaft, remote steering, power tilt

Like its siblings in the remote-steer range, this one ships minus any sidemount remote and without a fuel tank or line installed; buy those separately once you've confirmed your helm's cable length and control-head compatibility. The 15-inch shaft is meant for a shorter transom, independent of whichever steering or tilt options you've chosen.

Engine and equipment

Propeller, steering arm, and the tilt hardware pack together, charging system included; bundled apart from those are the tool kit, a cutoff cord, and the printed book. This 333cc EFI twin's rated throttle band stretches from 5,400 rpm up to 6,100.

Q: Does the short shaft change the tilt mechanism? No, power tilt and shaft length are independent; let your transom height decide shaft choice rather than the tilt option you want.

Tohatsu backs the MFS20EEPTS with a 5-year warranty. Given the short shaft and remote-steer combination, double check your transom height and helm wiring together rather than one at a time, since both need to line up for the install to go smoothly.
