Details & Inspection Notes

At 200 horsepower, the Tohatsu BFT200DLRA is one of the biggest motors in this lineup, meant for a boat already rigged for a remote-steer helm rather than a tiller. Electric start, power trim and tilt, and a 20-inch shaft come standard, and the whole package weighs in at 584 lbs.

Remote steering on a big six-cylinder

A motor this size has to bolt into a boat with a helm control head and steering cables already in place; check that your existing rigging is sized for a six-cylinder outboard rather than something smaller before ordering. The 20-inch shaft still has to clear your transom correctly, the same rule that applies on much smaller motors.

Power and equipment

Six cylinders, 3471cc, electronic fuel injection, and a full-throttle ceiling of 6,000 rpm with 5,000 at the bottom of that band describe the heart of this engine. The crate also brings power trim and tilt, a fuel line hose, the charging system, a stop-switch lanyard, and the owner's manual, with electric start wired in from the factory.

Q: Is power trim and tilt included or optional? It's standard on the BFT200DLRA.

Tohatsu covers this motor with a 5-year warranty. At this horsepower, have the transom and mounting bolts inspected before install if the boat wasn't originally rigged for a motor this heavy; the stress on an undersized transom shows up quickly at full throttle.
