Details & Inspection Notes
The Tohatsu MFS115AWETL is another 20-inch-shaft build of Tohatsu's 115 HP four-stroke, set up with remote mechanical steering and electric start for boats rigged the same way as the standard MFS115AETL.
Engine and charging
Tohatsu's 4-2-1 performance-tuned exhaust is the headline feature here, smoothing torque across the RPM range for a faster hole shot and a quicker run to top speed with less drag once the boat is on plane. A high-output 41-amp alternator feeds the 12-volt charging system, which matters for boats running electronics alongside the motor. The 1995cc, four-cylinder EFI powerhead uses a 2.08:1 low gear for added torque at low speed.
Day-to-day use
A fresh-water flushing fitting makes rinsing the cooling system straightforward after each outing, and the Variable Idle System allows idle speed to be set anywhere from 650 to 850 RPM for trolling or tighter maneuvering near docks. Power trim and tilt come standard, and Tohatsu covers the motor with a five-year warranty.
Rigging reminder
Because steering is remote rather than tiller on this build, check that the boat's existing control cables and binnacle match before ordering so installation goes smoothly the first time.
Common questions
Will this charge batteries while trolling at idle? Alternator output depends on RPM, and the idle range here runs 650 to 850 RPM. Is the shaft length the same as the standard 115 model? Yes, this is a 20-inch shaft. Does it come with a carburetor to maintain? No, fuel delivery on this engine is electronic.
