Details & Inspection Notes
The DF15AES2 shares its fuel-injected 15 HP engine with the DF15AEL but sits on a short shaft rather than long, suited to jon boats, skiffs, and inflatables with a lower transom, and keeps a manual pull cord as backup to its electric starter.
What to check before buying
Confirm your transom takes the shorter shaft length before ordering; Suzuki also sells this 15 HP block on a taller shaft for different boats. Below the cowling, a 327 cc twin runs on digital CDI timing through a 2.08-to-1 gearbox, turning a propeller 9.25 inches across with a 10.0-inch pitch.
Charging and what's packed in
Keeping the starting battery topped up is a 145-watt alternator wired in as standard gear. Fuel comes from a 3.1-gallon tank outside the motor, hooked up with its own hose, and the crate also includes a printed manual and a basic tool kit for routine upkeep.
Common questions
How is this different from the long-shaft DF15AEL? Shaft length is the main change; everything else about the engine carries over.
Is there a back-up way to start it? There's a manual pull cord kept in reserve, in case the battery ever runs flat.
Suzuki covers this engine under its 3-year warranty, matching the rest of the 15 HP lineup. Shaft length aside, the controls, the throttle feel, and the starting sequence are identical to the long-shaft DF15AEL, so switching between the two later is a non-issue.
