Details & Inspection Notes

The Outback 185 steps up from Lincoln's lighter engine-driven welders with DC stick output up to 185 amps and a heavier-duty generator side, built for crews that need more welding power in the field along with AC power for tools. All engine controls, including the electric start switch and choke, sit on the front panel for easy access when the unit rides on a truck bed.

Who it suits

At 325 pounds, this is a truck-bed or trailer-mounted machine for service trucks, ranch and farm work, or crews that want stick welding and generator power beyond what a lighter unit covers. Low-lift grab bars on both ends help with loading and unloading.

Output and generator power

Stick output on this unit tops out at 5/32-inch electrode. The duty cycle runs 100 percent at 100 amps, steps down to 60 percent at 130 amps, and drops further to 20 percent at 150 amps. The generator delivers 5,700 watts peak and 5,200 watts continuous, drawn from a 6.8-gallon fuel tank. A Lincoln Power MIG 140C or 180C extends it to wire welding, and a Tomahawk 375 Air plasma cutter can run off this unit too.

Q: Does this replace a shop MIG welder? No, stick is the only process built into this machine; MIG work needs a compatible Power MIG unit plugged into the generator side.

Q: Can it run a plasma cutter? Yes, a Lincoln Tomahawk 375 Air can plug into this unit to cut metal on site.

This new unit carries Lincoln Electric's three-year warranty along with the California Prop 65 notice common to welding gear of this type. See our welding equipment lineup for a lighter engine-driven welder if 185 amps of stick output is more than your work requires.
